Minneapolis school shooting latest: Two
Their first week of term at
Minneapolis's Annunciation Catholic
School and already under attack. Parents
frantically trying to find out if their
children are safe after a single shooter
opened fire on students as young as six
in the Minnesotan city. Armed with a
rifle, shotgun, and a pistol, the man in
his early 20s shot through church
windows, killing an eight and 10year-old
and injuring 20 others before taking his
own life. 10 of those injured are said
to now be in a critical condition in
nearby hospitals.
>> I was just at church um um and I heard
something like really loud like I
thought it was fireworks in the church.
Um and um and um and then and then I saw
the shooting and then and I was like,
"Oh my gosh, I'm so scared." And so a
teacher lead me downstairs um to like
the like peace preschool classroom. And
so I went there and um me and my friend
Cece were just um praying praying.
>> My husband's a firefighter and he got a
phone call this morning and said that
there was a a incident at Annunciation
and that's where my niece and nephew go
to school. So he um we live nearby so he
just took off on foot and um my
brother-in-law is a firefighter too and
it's his kids that go to Annunciation
and thankfully we heard about 15 minutes
ago that they're safe. Um, but it just
it's so awful and it's so scary. And
>> the shooter has not yet been identified,
but they've left yet another American
community wondering why their children
have been turned into targets.
>> This was a deliberate act of violence
against innocent children and other
people worshiping.
The sheer cruelty
and cowardice of firing into a church
full of children is absolutely
incomprehensible.
>> From the White House, President Trump
posted, "I have been fully briefed on
the tragic shooting in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. The FBI quickly responded and
they are on the scene. The White House
will continue to monitor this terrible
situation. Please join me in praying for
everyone involved."
It's been 13 years since 20 pupils
similarly aged between six and seven
were killed in Sandy Hook. Despite
promises from politicians at the time,
Annunciation Catholic School will now
join the long list of educational
institutions to suffer from inaction on
gun regulation.
